WHAT CHANGED IN 2024
Why Paraguayan beef can now come to Canada.
In 2024, Paraguayan beef became eligible for the Canadian market after a Canadian Food Inspection Agency review of the country’s inspection system, food-safety controls, animal-welfare oversight, traceability and export controls.
The CFIA concluded that Paraguay’s bovine meat inspection system provides a level of protection equivalent to Canada’s. It means Canadian families can now discover another grass-fed origin that has completed the required review and auditing.
GOOD FROM SOURCE TO TABLE
Know where your food comes from.
Our family has worked in agriculture for four generations. Today, we work directly with Paraguayan farming families who share our standards for pasture, animal care and lasting quality.
JOHANNES & MARK - AT THE SOURCE IN PARAGUAY
GRASS-FED YEAR-ROUND
Regenerating the land
Planned rotations give grazed pasture time to rest. Hoof action and manure return organic matter and nutrients to the soil.
Protecting water resources
Careful water management and responsible use of this essential resource across the farming environment.
Animal welfare
Practices audited against NSF Global Animal Wellness Standards, with careful handling across the production chain.
Clean, controlled processing
BRCGS-certified and HACCP-based processing in modern facilities built for food safety, consistency and traceability.WHY GRASS-FED BEEF FROM PARAGUAY?
Why the climate in Paraguay matters.
Paraguay’s warmer climate and longer growing season support pasture-based cattle raising for more of the year. Where Canadian winter naturally shortens grazing, these cattle can spend their lives out on pasture, moving, grazing and expressing natural behaviour.
Water is protected and powers the country.
Water resources are managed carefully on the farms. Nationally, Paraguay operates one of the world’s cleanest electricity systems, with 99.6% of its electricity generated from hydropower.
Pasture for more of the year
Abundant sun and a warmer growing season help sustain a forage-first production system.
Native forest remains part of the farm.
Paraguay’s Forestry Law requires qualifying rural properties to retain native forest. Trees and vegetation support shade, habitat and moisture across the landscape.
Pasture moves, then recovers.
Cattle move through planned rotations, often every few days, so grazed areas can rest and recover. Hoof action and manure help return organic matter and nutrients to the soil.
A place shaped by many communities.
The Chaco is home to Indigenous peoples, Paraguayan families and Mennonite agricultural communities, each with distinct histories and knowledge of the land.
STEWARDSHIP YOU CAN SEE
The work starts with soil, water and pasture.
These parts of the farm work together. Healthy soil grows better grass. Trees provide shade and help retain moisture. Animals return nutrients to the land. Our direct relationships help us understand the daily decisions behind the beef.
